Established on the 25th March 1857, pursuant to the County and Borough Police Act 1856. At the time of amalgamation the force had a strength of 447 and had absorbed the following:
Banbury Borough Police - Established in 1836 with a strength of 12. Merged on 1st October 1925 by which time the strength had risen to 17.
Chipping Norton Borough Police – Established in 1836 with a strength of 1 which remained unchanged until merged with the county force in 1856.
Henley Borough Police - Established in 1838 with a strength of 2 which remained unchanged until merged with the county force in 1856.

Description: Dark green body, bonnet, opening rear doors, chassis, mudguards, running boards and ribbed roof; dark green 12 spoke wheels on black tyres with spare on drivers side above running board; radiator grille, windscreen, headlights and sidelamps in chrome; toolbox cover on left side running board in dark green; black plastic RHD steering wheel and seats; Oxfordshire Constabulary insignia on both sides of upper panel; 'POLICE' in bold white print on front of cab roof; red rear lights ; front and rear number-plates – AC 156.

Variations: Black or tan seats.
Dark green or black body, bonnet, opening rear doors, chassis, mudguards, running boards and ribbed roof.
Dark green 12 spoke wheels or chrome 12 or 24 spoke wheels.
